- Big Leaf Maple: This tree is native to the Pacific Northwest. It has the distinction of having the largest leaf of the Maples, which can reach up to 15" in diameter. The tree can produce many different types of figure, including quilted (tubular, popcorn, & cloud), curly (fiddleback, broken, & basketweave), and burl.
- Wenge: The wenge tree originates in central Africa. Heartwood is medium brown, sometimes with a reddish or yellowish hue, with nearly black streaks. Upon application of a wood finish (particularly an oil finish) the wood can become nearly black.
- Padauk: This exotic hardwood comes from central and tropical west Africa. The heartwood color can vary, ranging from a pale pinkish orange to a deep brownish red. Most pieces tend to start bright orange when freshly cut, darkening substantially over time to a reddish/purplish brown
